It is said that your life flashes before your eyes just before you die. That is true; it's called Life. 70/365
Musings: Faith is an odd thing. When I was younger I said that religion was for people who were afraid to die, or something they only turned to when they needed help. If they really believed they would always turn to God. I was particularly against the Catholic church, and the fact that the Pope is now saying that maybe condoms aren't that bad has only softened my view on the slightly. One boy I knew was a Jehovah's witness, and he was absolutely miserable. He believed Judgment Day was coming and he could never be forgiven for his sins.
& yet I have always kept faith. I wore a crucifix for a long time because it gave me security. I pray in chapel at school. & I never pray for myself. That's a fundamental rule of my faith. That one evening I went to God Club with a friend we had to pray for good exam results for one of the girls there. I rolled my eyes. I remember when I was little I would sometimes get so scared of things that were happening that I would fling myself down to my knees and pray and pray and pray for it to stop. Of course it stopped. It had to eventually.
I'm not sure what God represents for me. I used to think of him as an old man in the sky with a great long beard wearing a blue robe, because that's how a childhood book about Noah's Ark used to portray him. I'm not sure if I see God in the usual Christian way. I believe that people who believe in karma are just interpreting God in their own way, so in a way my faith's a little like that.
Today was strange. I saw that even though there seems to be misery everywhere now, and even though my heart is breaking to see people I love so badly hurt, maybe this has to be gone through to make it through to the other side. & maybe when all this is dealt with then what I prayed for will be able to happen. Maybe. It depends how you choose to look at it. Maybe this happening was inevitable, but I'm not so sure. Maybe it's down to chance. Anyway, in a seemingly small way, everything has changed, & the way I've had to live my life for the last 6 years has just gone.
My general day:
I stayed up til 6am this morning finishing a book. It was 'Nation', by Terry Pratchett and I highly recommend you go & read it. It's classified as one of his books for children, but the great thing about Pratchett is that all of his books can be read by any age range & they are still perfectly accessible. 'Nation' is just brilliant. It focuses on life, death, religion, and science, and was just wow. I can't recommend it enough. But then again I do love Pratchett.
For Mother's Day we went to a restaurant, but I don't know its name. My brother was at a rugby cup game (they're through to the finals now and my brother was man of the match!) so it was just my Mom, Dad and me. It was nice, and we had pudding, which is a very rare thing.
Then, due to my 4 hours sleep, I came home & brought my spare dolphin duvet downstairs into the garden room. I intended to work, but actually spent ages taking photos and talking to my Mom. In the evening we went and got my brother from a friend's house & went out for dinner at The Black Lion so that my brother would have a Mother's Day meal with my Mom too.
& now I am here & haven't done any homework & I'm very tired & I plan to change into my pyjamas & then watch TV while doing homework.
Oh & today my parents were asking about the American boy & when I'd last spoken to him & I said 2 weeks & that if he really wanted to talk to me he could call me instead of just texting and messaging me. As I curled up in the duvet later the phone rang & I answered it sleepily. Oh great. It was him. He wanted to know where I'd been and started getting clingy & I was just thinking "You're not good for me. You put me down & make me feel worthless. I can't deal with your dramas anymore", but of course I didn't say that. He was kinda waiting for me to say something but I didn't have anything to say. I don't want to be cruel to him, but I'm just too busy to deal with him messing around with my life.

How I accidentally fell in love with and married another man, or: Kenneth plays The Sims 2 Mobile Edition
So my new phone comes with The Sims 2 Mobile Edition. I've never played any Sims games, actually, so I was curious. The first thing I noticed is that it's a pain having to constantly go to the bathroom and shower and eat and stuff. It's like they're making up for all the games (not to mention TV shows and movies) where the characters go days without ever using the toilet. Here, you spend half your time on the toilet!
The worst part is going to bed. While you're sleeping to bring your tiredness meter back up, your bathroom, shower, hunger, and entertainment meters all drop, so that when you wake up, you have to spend a couple hours of in-game time just to be content again. My second day of in-game work, I didn't give myself enough time, my entertainment meter was too low, and my character didn't feel like going to work. I missed the carpool and missed work, apparently because I needed to watch TV for a while longer instead. :\
Anyway, you meet other characters in the game (played by the computer), and you can chat with them to befriend them. As you do so, your friendship meter goes up. I had my character, Clark, chat with the Ben for a while, and when the meter got to 45, it said, "You've made a new friend!"
I kept chatting with Ben, and when the meter got to around 70, it said, "You've fallen in love!" Whoa. I totally didn't expect that! Before I knew it, Ben and I had spent the night together, which the game depicts with the pictured image. (It also lets you "spend the night" regardless of the time of day, but it always takes exactly 3 hours) Later that same day, we got married! Evidently the game doesn't discriminate at all between men and women when it comes to love and marriage.
Of course, the game's model of love isn't terribly sophisticated. Your relationship with each character is totally independent, so you can fall in love with every other character while you're married, and spend the night with them while your husband is in the same room. :P
The best part: When I tried to get a divorce, the game replied directly and to the point: "You cannot afford a divorce." :)
(Eventually I learned that you get about $800 when you get married, and you lose the same amount when you get divorced. I guess it's supposed to represent tax breaks maybe?)
